So, everywhere I go I see magazines talking about the stars of Divergent. I assumed, foolishly, that this was some new TV show I could safely ignore.
Alas, no. It is a movie. It is the dreaded Hunger Games clone.
Its not like Hunger Games was worth any of the god damn hype, but even before the 'Phenom' is played through, they've got a clone out.
Sigh.
Anyway, I just got done reading the wiki on the original novel.
The stupid, it burns.
I am exceedingly reluctant to review a book based on a Cliff Notes, even when the Cliff Notes version covers some significant problems and themes.
You know: Like the City of Chicago apparently has a population measured in the mere dozens of people, based on how many of the main characters are miraculously related to the major political powerhouses and so on, and how everyone seems to know everyone else business.
Or this whole personality caste based system that seems to punish people for... doing what the system tells them they are supposed to do (adopting the Caste they are best suited for...).
Or the way that only a handful of people (every single fucking heroic character) seems to have more than one positive personality trait... and that gives them special powers.
The Stupid, It Burns.
Still, I care.
And because I care, I will actually find some way to read this terrible fucking thing... and mind you, as unbiased as I can be about it, so that I can review it properly for you.
What's that? Several of my neurons have just sent me a special message that they have asked me to relay to you, the readers. I'm not sure it makes sense but they said, and I quote...
"We who are about to die, Salute you!"
Huh. Who knew my neurons were such weirdos?
